The Challenge
Boden, a UK-based fashion retailer, was undergoing a digital transformation. The company aimed to provide the right product at the right time, relevant and timely communication, and personalized and localized experiences. To achieve this, their creative teams needed to produce more content in a shorter amount of time. Photography, being a key part of any content they produce, added to the complexity of the task. The company could no longer rely on traditional methods like folder structures and spreadsheets to find what is available to them. The challenge was to produce more content in less time to support their digital transformation.
About The Customer
Boden is a London-based fashion retailer with a turnover of £350M. The company employs around 1,200 people. Boden creates clothes that bring color to a wardrobe and fun to one’s life. Their simple formula is: “We’ll sort the clothes, you bring the smile.” Boden can be found not only at high-street shops and concessions, but also in online retail partnerships. Karen Phillipson, the Creative Operations Manager, is responsible for making sure the creative teams have the processes and systems they need in order to meet the business requirements.
The Solution
To overcome the challenge, Boden adopted automated workflows to ensure accuracy and accelerate creative operations. They implemented a visual and central image library to give their creative and marketing teams access to review their imagery and to know where they were in the production process. One of the more important workflows involved image status change and repro integration. This workflow took each project from photography to selecting the best image, preparing materials for page design, creating the pages—and, if necessary, retouching the images—and sending the page for production. The solution provided enterprise connectivity and future proofing through integration and built a creative workflow that facilitated without regulating.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of automated workflows and a central image library transformed Boden's creative operations. The solution allowed the creative and marketing teams to review their imagery and understand their position in the production process. The workflow involving image status change and repro integration streamlined the process from photography to page production. This not only accelerated the creative operations but also ensured accuracy. The solution facilitated the creative workflow without regulating it, thus providing flexibility. The enterprise connectivity and future proofing through integration further enhanced the operational efficiency.
