The Challenge
Ainsworth, a heating, ventilation, electrical, and mechanical services contractor, was struggling with the rigidity of canned reports from its JD Edwards ERP system and a lack of flexibility in its development tools. This was not satisfying users’ constant requests for information. The company needed a solution that would make it easier for developers and end users to create reports, manipulate data, and share information in the company’s ERP system. The company wanted to construct a data warehouse using ERP transaction data, and then build user-friendly dashboards that deliver real-time information about the business.
About The Customer
Ainsworth, Inc. is a heating, ventilation, electrical, and mechanical services contractor serving the industrial, institutional, and commercial marketplaces. The company offers a vast array of services and can coordinate everything from retrofitting buildings to engineering complex equipment installations, including cooling, mechanical, wiring, electrical systems, diesel generators, fire alarm systems, and computer systems. Ainsworth also offers extensive post-sales service and support. The company is headquartered in Toronto with 15 offices across Canada, Ainsworth has 800 employees and annual revenues of over $300 million.
The Solution
Ainsworth decided to implement Information Builders' WebFOCUS business intelligence (BI) platform and integration technologies from iWay Software. The company hired Information Builders Professional Services to design and build a data warehouse, laying a foundation for financial and operational reporting. Ainsworth now has a wide variety of user-friendly dashboards that support real-time decision-making about financials, billing, customers, sales opportunities, contract renewals, work orders, and more. The company uses WebFOCUS in conjunction with a JD Edwards EnterpriseOne enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, including finance, assets, orders, projects, supply-chain planning, and other modules. In the future, Ainsworth plans to use iWay to capture GPS data and display it in Google Maps to optimize the deployment of field technicians.
