Furthermore, a significant number of residents do not own a vehicle, making them heavily reliant on public transit. The existing fixed routes were underperforming, and the lack of a modern, convenient system was a significant issue for the community.
About The Customer
The customers in this case study are the residents of Gainesville and greater Hall County, Georgia. This region, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is primarily rural. The residents include individuals who are not as mobile due to age or physical ability, and a significant number of residents who do not own a vehicle. These residents heavily rely on public transit for their commuting needs. However, the inconvenience of the existing public transit system, characterized by non-centrally located bus stops and underperforming fixed routes, posed significant challenges for these residents.
The Solution
In December 2020, Via, a transportation network company, partnered with Gainesville and Hall County to launch an on-demand service. This innovative solution replaced three underperforming fixed routes in Gainesville with pickups and dropoffs anywhere within the city. This change significantly boosted accessibility and convenience for the residents. Additionally, the introduction of a mobile app has attracted younger riders, further increasing the ridership. The service is set to expand farther into Hall County soon, and a pre-scheduled offering will replace an outdated dial-a-ride service, further enhancing the public transit system in the region.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic.
