The Challenge
Mark Brand, a chef, professor, and social impact entrepreneur, runs multiple businesses and advocacy programs aimed at helping marginalized populations reintegrate into society. His restaurant, Save On Meats, has a program where individuals in need can exchange a plastic token for a sandwich. The program has served over two million meals to the community since its launch in 2012. However, with so many programs pressing his time, Mark needed a way to more effectively and efficiently run his core business so he could focus more on expanding his vision. He needed a mobile-first solution to access the statistics and evidence he needs to substantiate his call for change. He also needed a real-time view of what was happening in his Save On Meats business, including metrics around the restaurant’s profitability, from revenue to operational costs, and how it all contributes to the bottom line.
About The Customer
Mark Brand is a chef, professor, and social impact entrepreneur who is leading advocacy programs to help marginalized populations reintegrate into society through purposeful work and innovation. He runs multiple businesses and advocacy programs, all with the single goal of helping to end isolation and poverty worldwide. One of his businesses, Save On Meats, is a restaurant in Vancouver that has a program where individuals in need can exchange a plastic token for a sandwich. Since its launch in 2012, Save on Meats has served over two million meals to the community through its meal programs. Mark's vision is to expand his advocacy programs and he is constantly looking for ways to more effectively and efficiently run his core business so he can focus more of his time on expanding his vision.
The Solution
Mark turned to Domo, a mobile-first solution that allowed him to easily connect and transform data from anywhere. Domo pulled homelessness data into dashboards for Mark to see and interact with it in ways he’d never been able to before. Because Domo is real-time and mobile-first, Mark can see everything happening in his business, right now, from anywhere. Alongside live business insights, Mark has access to information from dozens of sources that Domo has visualized in a way that he can put in front of others to drive more impactful change. Domo worked directly with the vendor for Save On Meat’s core operational software, Profitek, to create a direct connection between their data and Domo. Domo then built a financial dashboard for the Save On Meats restaurant that updates all their point of sale information alongside inventory, revenue, and cost of labor data.
Operational Impact
  • Mark can see, at a glance, any individual day’s revenue compared to average, revenue vs. wages and labor costs, and what items are selling every hour, the hourly revenue of each item, and what the most popular items on the menu are.
  • With Domo, Mark can drive more awareness, build more advocacy programs, and change the conversations happening around the homelessness epidemic.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Since its launch in 2012, Save on Meats has served over two million meals to the community through its meal programs.
