The Challenge
Yola, a website creation and hosting platform, was looking for ways to offer Universal SSL to all the web properties on their network. They had already implemented DDoS protection, a Content Delivery Network (CDN), and managed DNS capabilities to deliver a world-class service. However, they were looking to consolidate multiple vendor contracts and roll out Universal SSL while doing so. The challenge was to find a single-vendor solution that could meet all their needs, including Universal SSL, DDoS protection, CDN, and DNS. Additionally, they had to migrate their substantial user base to the new platform, which was a significant challenge.
About The Customer
Yola is a San Francisco-based company that offers a website creation and hosting platform to millions of customers. Its flagship product, a web-based site builder, allows non-technical users to create a website and establish a digital presence for themselves or their small businesses through Yola’s ecommerce and marketing tools. Yola has more than 10 million users and hosts 50 million pages across both dedicated and shared domains. The company is committed to making the web secure for all global visitors and has implemented measures such as DDoS protection, a Content Delivery Network (CDN), and managed DNS capabilities to deliver a world-class service.
The Solution
Yola chose Cloudflare as their single-vendor solution. Cloudflare offered Universal SSL for all its customers, which was a primary need for Yola. After evaluating Cloudflare for a wider range of services including DDoS protection, CDN, and DNS, Yola found that Cloudflare could effectively deliver on these feature areas as well. By consolidating vendors from three to one, Yola was able to cut costs and enhance their end users’ website performance and efficiency. The migration of Yola’s user base to Cloudflare’s platform was completed within a few weeks, thanks to the ease of Cloudflare’s host API. All of Yola’s sites are now automatically protected against level 3 and 4 DDoS attacks thanks to Cloudflare’s advanced Anycast Network DDoS mitigation technology. Yola now enjoys extremely fast content loading due to Cloudflare’s global CDN. Through Cloudflare’s global, powerful, and secure DNS, Yola has seen improvements in users’ page loading times, which in turn has improved overall customer satisfaction.
