HID Global’s Passive RFID Sensor TAGs Revolutionize GE Hydro's Generator Installations
HID Global
GE Hydro, a subsidiary of GE Renewable Energy, provides solutions for hydropower installations, including machinery and equipment sensor integration, testing, measurements, and data interpretation. However, they faced a significant challenge in monitoring the conditions of their installations. Hydropower installations are located in severe environments, often with aging connections between the rotor poles that exhibit drastic temperature rises and cause unplanned failures in production. Traditional solutions like batteries, direct wired connections, infrared devices, and fiber-based temperature sensors were ineffective due to the harsh conditions, high radial accelerations, and the proximity of metal parts. Furthermore, the high speed of transit in front of the antenna, which can go up to 250 km per hour, posed additional challenges. Monitoring, collecting, and managing reliable data with a small RFID TAG was a major technical challenge due to the high currents and related electromagnetic fields inside the enclosure where the RFID chip in the generator is located.
Enpro Inc. Enhances Quality Control in Carbonated Beverage Filling with HID Global
HID Global
Enpro Inc.'s customers, primarily beverage companies, rely on automated, high-speed filling lines that produce up to 2,500 items per minute per line. A key component of these lines is the vent tube, which is used to fill cans and bottles and vent out the carbonation-related gas. However, due to wear and tear, these vent tubes can occasionally fall off and into the cans and bottles, leading to safety and quality issues. The loss or damage of a vent tube during the filling process can result in large amounts of finished packaged product being discarded, as locating the missing vent tube is a costly and time-consuming process. Therefore, Enpro Inc.'s customers needed a reliable way to detect the presence or absence of a vent tube, eliminating the need for manual checks and potential line halts.
Modernizing the Angolan Government Agency Voter ID Program with IoT
HID Global
The Angolan government agency was seeking to upgrade its voter ID system ahead of the elections in Q3 2017. The aim was to increase the number of citizens eligible to vote by issuing voter IDs in a short time frame. The existing voter ID printing system needed to be replaced with a solution that reduced costs significantly by providing mobility and streamlining operational processes. The key selection criteria included a faster throughput secure issuance printer solution, a de-centralized secure issuance solution to increase the number of citizens enrolled, a Wi-Fi based secure issuance printing solution for increased convenience, improved reliability of the printing solution, a lightweight, easy-to-use portable solution for collecting citizens’ data and issuing voter IDs for citizens residing in remote areas, and high levels of security to combat fraud and minimize the number of counterfeit voter IDs.
Innovation-Driven Mobile Access Adoption at Żabka Retail Chain’s Headquarters
HID Global
Żabka, a convenience store chain with 7000 locations across Poland and the Czech Republic, is known for its innovative approach and early adoption of unique technological solutions. As part of their plans for a new headquarters in Poznań, Poland, the organization wanted to go beyond a traditional building access control system. They aimed to create a modern, intelligent, and automated office for their employees, enabled by one integrated solution. This system would need to utilize mobile identities and a custom application to simplify the use of office functionalities, accelerate and automate administrative processes, and optimize the management of access control and building-wide security. The creation of such a large ecosystem would need to combine many different functionalities, and Żabka turned to a group of like-minded providers to create and implement their vision.
