The Challenge
888 Holdings, a leading online betting and gaming company, faced the challenge of maintaining high customer satisfaction levels in gaming while meeting stringent data protection regulations. The company hosts more than 40,000 concurrent users, each expecting high standards of service in terms of performance and availability. This necessitated a high-performance infrastructure. Additionally, the gaming industry is heavily regulated, with increasing data protection requirements. 888 Holdings was required to keep a third copy of all data, leading to rapid data growth. The challenge was to manage this data growth while ensuring low latency and high availability in data centers.
About The Customer
888 Holdings is one of the world’s leading online betting and gaming companies. It owns and operates a wide range of online casino, sports betting, poker, and bingo brands. The company hosts more than 40,000 concurrent users, each expecting the same high standard of service in terms of performance and availability. The gaming industry in which 888 Holdings operates is heavily regulated, with an increasing number of data protection requirements. The company has experienced rapid data growth due to increased business and the requirement to keep a third copy of all data.
The Solution
To address these challenges, 888 Holdings partnered with Hitachi Vantara to build a 3-data-center solution based on Hitachi’s flash storage infrastructure and data protection solutions. The solution involved the use of Hitachi Global-Active Device to build an active-active replication between two Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) G700 systems and between two VSP 5100 systems in their data center. Hitachi Universal Replicator’s semi-synchronous replication of a third copy to another VSP G700 ensured greater resiliency and data availability. A VSP G350 was used for data warehousing. The solution also incorporated Hitachi Ops Center Analyzer, a data center management software that monitors and reports on performance. This allowed 888 Holdings to optimize their infrastructure and plan for future growth while troubleshooting any performance bottlenecks.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of the Hitachi Vantara solution has enabled 888 Holdings to meet their customers’ demands for performance and continuous service, as well as meeting regulation requirements. The new infrastructure has provided stability and high performance, ensuring customer satisfaction. The use of Hitachi Ops Center Analyzer has allowed the company to optimize their infrastructure and plan for future growth. The integrated diagnostic engine has enabled them to troubleshoot any performance bottlenecks, ensuring smooth operations and high availability.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Hosting capacity for more than 40,000 concurrent users
  • Implementation of a 3-data-center solution
  • Active-active replication between two VSP G700 systems and two VSP 5100 systems
