The Challenge
NETinfo, a rapidly growing independent software vendor, was faced with the challenge of providing a cost-effective, fully customizable e-banking multi-channel solution to financial institutions. The solution needed to meet high-performance requirements including scalability, always-on availability, robust security, and full customizability. Additionally, the solution had to support multiple jurisdictions, single sign-on across multiple banks, and multi-signature workflows. The company initially used Oracle for the NETteller e-banking platform, but the high upfront licensing fees and costly ongoing support significantly increased the total cost of ownership. MySQL was also considered but was quickly rejected due to its lack of critical features such as online backup, point-in-time restore, and security features.
About The Customer
NETinfo Plc is one of the fastest-growing independent software vendors in its field. The company develops software products that help create new, more efficient business models for financial institutions. NETinfo is an ISO9001 company based in Cyprus with operations in London, Romania, Albania, Russia, Chile, Peru, Columbia, Greece, and Ghana. The company's flagship product, NETteller e-Banking Solution, is a multi-channel e-banking platform that provides secure, reliable, 24x7 access to business-critical information. The platform supports multiple jurisdictions, single sign-on for multiple banks, aggregated cross-border services, and multi-signature workflows.
The Solution
NETinfo partnered with Actian and built its internet banking application on Actian Ingres Database using JBoss Application Server. This combination of mature products provided a trustworthy solution for their business-critical application. The partnership allowed NETinfo to provide a single source internet banking solution that could be customized to meet the needs of individual financial institutions. The company also encouraged its clients to integrate business intelligence into the mix by considering the Ingres Icebreaker Business Intelligence Appliance. The National Invest Bank of Ghana implemented Phase 1 of the NETinfo NETteller e-banking solution with Ingres Database embedded in the solution and plans to incorporate Ingres Icebreaker Business Intelligence Appliance during Phase 2 of the project.
Operational Impact
  • NETinfo was able to meet all high-performance requirements for its e-banking platform cost-effectively.
  • The company was able to provide a customizable, multi-channel e-banking solution that kept the customer’s initial costs low.
  • The solution was flexible in interfacing with third-party products and integrating with existing back-end systems.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) by approximately 25 percent.
  • Saved customers at least 20 percent in initial costs.
