The Challenge
Clear Channel Outdoor, one of the largest outdoor advertising companies in the US, was facing several challenges. The company was dealing with unreliable business location data, which was previously addressed by licensing expensive, static datasets and geocoding addresses copied from websites. Additionally, the company's reports were constantly out of date and lacked visual appeal. These reports displayed all of the company's assets that affected each state and congressional district. The previous solution was an expensive, infrequently updated, and often incorrect report. Lastly, there was a resource bottleneck as the GIS Manager was the only person in the department with Alteryx, making the report unavailable if he was not present.
About The Customer
Clear Channel Outdoor is one of the largest outdoor advertising companies in the United States. The company's primary role is to support the creation of maps for the sales staff, all ad-hoc spatial analysis, and increasingly non-spatial analysis. The company has a background in retail site selection predictive models. The GIS Manager supports almost all divisions of the company, including Sales, Operations, Public Affairs, IT, and Real Estate.
The Solution
Alteryx was used to address the challenges faced by Clear Channel Outdoor. For the issue of unreliable business location data, Alteryx was used to automate the download of data directly from the retailer's website, eliminating the need for expensive, static datasets. To address the issue of outdated and boring reports, Alteryx was used to download Congressional member data from federal websites, geocode all employee addresses, create radio coverage polygons from current FCC data, and format the report to include a map. To solve the resource bottleneck issue, an Alteryx app was placed into the Gallery, allowing the person who needs the report to get it whenever they need it, without the GIS Manager's presence.
