The Challenge
Allianz Managed Operations & Services SE (AMOS), the shared service provider for Allianz Group, was faced with the challenge of facilitating compliance by rolling out new, standardized processes to accelerate reporting workflows and streamline quarter- and year-end closing processes. The company was seeking a more robust and efficient way to provide accurate reports in a timely manner. The aim was to build a best-practice approach that could meet the current reporting requirements and deliver the scalability to support future business growth. The challenge was to replace multiple processes with a single, integrated solution that could connect more than 80 source systems to the local SAP ERP and SAP Business Warehouse applications.
About The Customer
Allianz Managed Operations & Services SE (AMOS) is Allianz Group’s Shared Service provider headquartered in Munich, Germany. AMOS provides a range of services to the Allianz Group, including IT, operations, and services. The company was looking for a way to streamline its accounting processes, improve accuracy, and reduce the workload associated with reporting. The goal was to create a scalable solution that could support the company's growth and meet its current reporting requirements.
The Solution
AMOS partnered with IBM Global Business Services to consolidate and automate accounting processes using integrated SAP ERP applications. The project team analyzed existing procedures and local requirements with a view to replacing multiple processes with a single, integrated solution. The joint team connected the more than 80 source systems to the local SAP ERP and SAP Business Warehouse applications. The new SAP solution was plugged into a central integration layer provided by AMOS, which ensures accurate consolidation across various systems and countries in the main SAP ERP applications. In parallel, IBM set up the SAS environment to allow sophisticated business analytics. Offshore development teams implemented the requirements specified by the local consultants. The new solution was operated on IBM z Systems and IBM Power Systems servers running the IBM z/OS and IBM AIX operating systems. The new processes took advantage of IBM DB2 databases, IBM InfoSphere Information Server, IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM Tivoli backup and monitoring solutions.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of the integrated SAP ERP applications transformed AMOS's closing processes, eliminating duplication of work and reducing the reporting workload by 10-20 percent. This allowed personnel to focus on more value-added work. The solution also integrated planning for improved accuracy. The new system provided a robust and efficient way to deliver accurate reports in a timely manner, meeting current reporting requirements and providing the scalability to support future business growth.
