The Challenge
Suva, a Swiss insurance company, was facing the challenge of managing its complex and diverse business processes for which no single-source IT solution existed. The company had to manage its heterogeneous software and hardware systems, which were comprised of core prevention, insurance, and rehabilitation solutions as well as various interdisciplinary applications. Suva was also looking for a way to align its business strategy and IT, support corporate governance, and manage its IT architecture in a heterogeneous IT environment.
About The Customer
Suva is an independent public corporation established in 1918. It is based in Lucerne, Switzerland, and has 18 agencies across the country and two rehabilitation clinics. The company employs about 4,100 people. Suva provides occupational accident and disease insurance to some 123,000 businesses or 1.97 million workers, worth a total value of 4.2 billion Swiss francs in premiums. Since 2005, Suva has been the insurer of the Swiss national military. The company's board of directors is comprised of employees, employers, and representatives of the Swiss federal government.
The Solution
To manage its complex business processes, Suva implemented Software AG's ARIS, a versatile process management solution, in 2003. ARIS helped Suva address its complexity with service-oriented Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM). Using a central business architecture model, Suva was able to phase out the old technology-driven approach through the implementation of new IT solutions. ARIS also became the backbone of Suva's entire corporate documentation, managing the complete organizational landscape, including people, processes, and the entire business architecture. ARIS was also integrated with other solutions, such as an enterprise wiki, ITIL-based IT services management, and user authorization admin.
