Love Your Melon, a philanthropic organization, was founded with the goal of providing a hat to every child battling pediatric cancer in the United States. After achieving this initial goal, the organization set its sights on donating one million dollars to pediatric cancer research, funded by 50% of each hat's profits. To date, Love Your Melon has donated 3.8 million dollars to research and given over 125,000 hats to children battling cancer. The organization, which was founded by college students and works with over 13,500 college students across the United States, faced the challenge of connecting with thousands of students and planning giving events. They also needed to automate and improve their internal organizational and outbound sales processes.
Love Your Melon is a philanthropic organization that was founded in October 2012 by co-founders Zachary and Brian while they were still in college. The organization's mission is to provide a hat to every child battling pediatric cancer in the United States and to donate a significant portion of their profits to pediatric cancer research. Love Your Melon works with over 13,500 college students across the United States to help children battling cancer. They also run campaigns featuring celebrities and influencers wearing their hats to raise awareness and funds for their cause.
To address their challenges, Love Your Melon turned to Zapier, an app automation tool. Initially, they used Zapier to run their Campus Crew Program and plan giving events for children battling cancer. Over time, they expanded their use of Zapier to automate and improve many of their internal organizational and outbound sales processes. For instance, they used Zapier to build databases with Google Sheets and Typeform, recording data such as the number of followers each celebrity ambassador had on social media, as well as where and when photos of these celebrities wearing Love Your Melon hats were posted. This allowed them to estimate how many people saw their products and attribute sales spikes to specific posts. They also used Zapier to automatically create backups in Google Drive for custom orders, and to create corresponding customers in their Shopify account for easy checkout.
