Avocados Don Goyo, a leading exporter of fresh Hass avocado, was facing significant operational challenges due to its reliance on on-premises infrastructure. The company's servers were located in rural areas, making them vulnerable to inclement weather and recurring power outages. This resulted in stressful situations for employees who feared potential damage to equipment and subsequent data loss. The company's access to its SAP systems was heavily dependent on weather conditions, which hindered its ability to manage operations effectively and explore new business opportunities. As a company aiming for scalability and international expansion, Avocados Don Goyo realized that relying solely on on-premises infrastructure was no longer viable. They needed to transition to a more agile cloud technology that could provide full availability of its SAP systems, regardless of weather conditions.
Avocados Don Goyo is a Mexican company specializing in the production, packaging, and sale of fresh Hass avocado internationally. The company employs around 2,000 staff and operates two main plants in Michoacán and a distribution center in Puebla. It is one of the top five exporters to Asian markets, offering high-quality products that exceed customer expectations. In a market influenced by several factors such as weather, diseases, and seasonal supply peaks, Avocados Don Goyo focuses on strengthening its domestic presence while expanding its share in the international domain. The company integrates all its business units to maintain competitive prices in Mexico and other countries, providing high-quality products throughout the year with state-of-the-art technology and specialized SAP-based processes.
Avocados Don Goyo decided to migrate its SAP systems to Google Cloud, with the help of its IT partner, EON. The migration process, which took 21 days, was made easier as the company was using the latest SAP S/4HANA versions. The goal was to enable the company to operate autonomously, and the necessary support was provided to achieve this. The migration involved the deployment of Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, and Cloud VPN. With EON's support, the company was able to create a target architecture and a migration plan, including configuring the Google Cloud console and VMs. This allowed Avocados Don Goyo to implement SAP in the cloud, thereby better managing its operations. The company also planned to implement cloud backups for its other non-SAP systems and is considering replacing its current productivity platform with Google Workspace solutions.
