The company aimed to change people's lives by helping them make better financial decisions. To achieve this, it needed to understand users' behaviors using digital tools. However, it was critical for Banlinea to have a robust infrastructure that provided the necessary security and certifications to assure its customers. The company also needed the ability to scale its products globally and required new data analysis tools to detect patterns from people's behaviors to develop products that meet their financial needs. Furthermore, Banlinea needed a technology that was not limited to a single type or brand, allowing for versatility, capacity, and scalability regardless of the increasing number of simultaneous customers. Business challenges included quick responsiveness in the development of its products, timely delivery of information, and a high level of security.
Banlinea is a Colombian fintech company that specializes in digital transformation and online sale of financial products. The Banlinea team is composed of over 60 employees working in Bogota and Mexico City offices, providing services across Latin America. One of the apps developed by Banlinea, Connect, takes the products offered by financial entities to a digital environment that is closer and more friendly for customers, who now have the opportunity to avoid visiting physical branches or standing in long queues.
Banlinea adopted Google Cloud to overcome its challenges. Google's team supported Banlinea throughout the process of adopting the new platform, providing simplified information and customized advice. Banlinea used virtualized servers, mailing, storage, and monitoring services, containers, and non-relational data. Google Cloud proved to be a non-restrictive, flexible technology that allowed Banlinea to use different databases. The platform also enabled big data analysis and machine learning applied to these databases, leading to accurate information on user behavior. Google Kubernetes Engine facilitated the development of different microservices to meet a variety of business needs. Banlinea was able to process approximately 2,000 daily transactions, with a team of up to 30 developers working on 6 or 7 projects simultaneously and only 1 infrastructure administrator. The company was able to operate without relying on a physical, on-premise infrastructure, as everything ran on the cloud. This enabled the company to work from different locations and offer its services without physical constraints.
