The Challenge
China’s rapid technological development has created a need for trained data analysts but there is a skills gap in the recruitment market for students with strong data literacy capabilities. One organization working to plug that gap is Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), an international joint university based in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. The university recognized the need to provide hands-on data analytics experience to its students to prepare them for the job market.
About The Customer
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an international joint university based in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. The university is committed to providing its students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the job market. Recognizing the growing demand for data literacy in the job market, XJTLU has taken proactive steps to equip its students with data analytics skills. The university's International Business School Suzhou has been instrumental in this initiative, running an online bootcamp for students.
The Solution
XJTLU’s International Business School Suzhou ran an online bootcamp where 30 university students were challenged to create business plans based on various data sets. An important part of the project was to provide hands-on data analytics experience. To fill that need, event organizer, Dr Jean-Yves Le Corre, engaged the Qlik Academic Program, which provides free Qlik Sense Business software, online training and a host of other resources to educators and students. The software allowed the students to build dashboards and applications and apply those to business reports.
Operational Impact
  • Students gained valuable practical experience in data analytics.
  • Students learned how to build dashboards and applications with Qlik Sense.
  • The event created a new experience in collaborative learning.
Quantitative Benefit
  • 30 university students were trained in data analytics.
