The Challenge
Le Télégramme, a French regional daily newspaper, was looking for a new way to visualize data in a timely manner to increase brand awareness and drive more traffic to its platform. They wanted to use visualizations that could be customizable and allow for easy adoption by non-coders. The collapse of the traditional business model of print newspapers has led many publications to establish themselves with original reporting, rather than just commentary or summaries of reporting from other publications to attract and retain readers and advertisers.
About The Customer
Le Télégramme is a French regional daily newspaper of Britain, established in 1944 with headquarters in France. The newspaper has a circulation of approximately 220,000 with over 19 editions. Since 1996, Le Télégramme has had a web presence and is visited monthly by nearly 2 million people. They have 220 journalist and 600 correspondents on staff. The newspaper is looking to leverage data visualizations to enhance its online presence and engage more readers.
The Solution
Le Télégramme’s journalists created powerful, data-driven visualizations showing the evolution of state staffing between 2014-2015. Emphasis was placed on townships, creating a picture of resource distribution throughout France. To create a visualization that accurately displayed all the data, and for the most optimum insights, Le Télégramme processed its data through CARTO’s powerful APIs. Within a period of less than the average 24-hour news cycle, Le Télégramme was able to produce data visualizations that displayed information in a simple and practical solution for their data journalist and engineers alike.
