The Challenge
Climate LLC, the digital farming division of Bayer Crop Science, was faced with the challenge of providing real-time updates to farmers to improve their productivity. The company needed a reliable way to share real-time data across their digital farming platform, which would help farmers monitor their operations in real time from their app. The challenge was to deliver these updates and device status changes at scale, without latency issues, no matter how high usage spikes. Network reliability was a significant concern, especially during the harvest season when usage spikes. The company needed a solution that could operate continuously and reliably to deliver real-time updates of farm equipment usage.
About The Customer
Climate LLC is the digital farming arm of Bayer Crop Science. The company is dedicated to helping farmers sustainably increase their productivity. From field insights to crop performance analysis, their platform is modernizing farm management by providing a way for users to control and monitor their operations in real time from their app. Utilizing solutions offered by Climate and Bayer Crop Science Digital Farming, farmers can collect and store data and monitor progress in real time as they are working in the field. The Climate FieldView™ platform provides a wide range of tools that seamlessly integrates with nearly all major equipment brands, helping farmers to make informed data-driven decisions that improve their operations.
The Solution
Climate LLC turned to PubNub to deliver real-time updates of farm equipment usage. The company's engineering division built out a core feature of their platform called Remote View, which allows those who are not working in the field to easily monitor equipment use and connect in real time to share critical information. Through Presence, powered by PubNub, their platform monitors equipment usage and pushes out real-time updates as the device state changes. By using PubNub for these real-time capabilities, Climate has given their customers the ability to remotely monitor device usage and status changes, which helps to improve productivity and farming operations. The company found PubNub to be highly reliable, ensuring the lowest latency to meet the needs of their customers. They have never considered moving away from it or building their own backend system.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.
