The Challenge
Grand Medica, a multi-profile medical center in Novokuznetsk, Siberia, Russian Federation, was created within an existing building that was not originally designed to be a hospital. The project had a tight, 20-month deadline, and the building presented some challenging spatial issues. The design and construction teams wanted an effective, integrated system that covered all the needs of a healthcare facility and would prove flexible enough to support future upgrades and modernization. They also prioritized reliable power and technology that would be flexible and scalable as the facility grew.
About The Customer
Grand Medica is a multi-profile medical center located in Novokuznetsk, Siberia, Russian Federation. The facility treats up to 160,000 patients per year and includes a health clinic, 10 operating rooms, a specialty operating room, an overnight stay area, and a laboratory. Grand Medica was created within an existing building that was not originally designed to be a hospital. Despite the spatial challenges presented by the building, the team at Grand Medica was committed to providing every patient with the highest quality medical care, which required the development of a fully connected facility.
The Solution
Grand Medica chose Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure for Healthcare, a connected, IoT-enabled digital hospital architecture that offers visibility into all engineering functions. The solution was implemented by Comfort Laboratory, a long-time Schneider Electric certified EcoXpert partner in building management systems and light and room control automation. This helped improve energy management and productivity through real-time remote management. The team also implemented Building Information Modeling (BIM) beginning at the design stage, which helped inform and streamline all aspects of the project. The EcoStruxure architecture allows the Grand Medica team to see the whole system, not broken into parts, and covers all the systems that EcoStruxure touches.
Operational Impact
  • Complete engineering systems management
  • Remote system access with real-time control
  • Improved level of care due to the stability of the hospital’s essential services and its uninterrupted power supply
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced electrical operational costs by 20%
  • Reduced thermal-energy consumption by nearly a third
  • $176,000 in CapEx savings due to product compatibility
