The Challenge
LeanTaaS, a provider of software solutions for healthcare systems, faced a significant challenge in securing their cloud-based APIs and web services. As a company serving leading hospitals and healthcare providers across the country, LeanTaaS needed a security solution that could provide real-time visibility and defense. Their lean approach, coupled with data analytics, aimed to create more efficient medical facilities, but the security of their cloud-based services was paramount. Additionally, they needed to meet the stringent HIPAA compliance requirements, which further complicated the situation. The challenge was to find a solution that could not only secure their web services and APIs but also ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
About The Customer
LeanTaaS is a leading provider of software solutions that combine lean principles, predictive and prescriptive analytics, and machine learning to transform hospital and infusion center operations. Their software is used by over 150 health systems across the nation, all of which rely on the iQueue cloud-based solutions to increase patient access, decrease wait times, reduce healthcare delivery costs, and improve revenue. LeanTaaS serves some of the leading hospitals and healthcare providers across the country, using a lean approach coupled with data analytics to create more efficient medical facilities. They provide dozens of web services via AWS cloud services.
The Solution
LeanTaaS found their solution in Fastly’s Next-Gen WAF, a web application firewall that could detect and block known threats while providing deep visibility across all their web services. This solution became a core component of LeanTaaS’ security and compliance toolkit. The Next-Gen WAF was integrated into their infrastructure, providing real-time insight and active defense. It was deployed in blocking mode in under 40 minutes, seamlessly integrating into their CI/CD pipeline. The solution was not only able to meet their compliance standards but also provided proactive defense. Furthermore, LeanTaaS was able to deploy the Next-Gen WAF across their entire infrastructure hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), providing scalable application security for their cloud-hosted applications.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Fastly’s Next-Gen WAF has brought significant operational benefits to LeanTaaS. The solution has been integrated into their development, security, and operations teams, fostering a holistic approach to security. The company has been able to improve its security posture by blocking known malicious attacks and detecting and blocking zero-day attacks as they happen. The real-time insight and active defense provided by the Next-Gen WAF have enabled LeanTaaS to be proactive in their security efforts, rather than just reacting to incidents after they occur. Furthermore, the solution has helped LeanTaaS meet their compliance standards in the highly regulated healthcare industry, while also providing proactive defense.
Quantitative Benefit
  • LeanTaaS was able to deploy the Next-Gen WAF in blocking mode in under 40 minutes, indicating a quick and efficient implementation process.
  • The solution was seamlessly integrated into their CI/CD pipeline, demonstrating its compatibility with existing systems.
  • The Next-Gen WAF was deployed across their entire infrastructure, showing its scalability and comprehensive coverage.
