The Challenge
AMOCO Federal Credit Union, a regulated financial services organization, had the ongoing responsibility to ensure the security and integrity of the organization’s network, systems, and data. The Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) department had been using Bomgar Remote Support with an on-premises appliance deployment for several years. However, they saw the need to heighten the organization’s security even more. They needed a solution that could provide robust control over individual privileged user actions and fully control the rights given to internal users.
About The Customer
AMOCO Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1937 and originally organized to serve the financial needs of employees of Pan American Refining Corporation. It later changed its name to Amoco Federal Credit Union to correspond with the name of its sponsor company at that time, Amoco Oil Refinery. In 1998, Amoco Oil and British Petroleum (BP) merged and the combined company eventually chose the name BP. However, Amoco Federal Credit Union made the decision to keep the Amoco name because it represented stability and familiarity in the community. The “Amoco” moniker was transformed into the acronym AMOCO, which stands for “A Member Owned Cooperative Organization.” Today, AMOCO Federal Credit Union has a diversified membership that includes 554 local sponsor companies and 79,000 members located throughout the country. With $800 million in assets, AMOCO is recognized as one of the largest credit unions in the Houston/Galveston area. AMOCO continues to grow in large part due to the satisfaction and loyalty of members and the commitment of its volunteers and staff.
The Solution
AMOCO Federal Credit Union implemented Bomgar Privileged Access. With this solution, the IS&T management team can define how each privileged user connects to a system as well as granularly control their access rights without hindering the work the users need to perform. Sessions can be monitored in real time and are recorded so that they can be reviewed at any time. The rights given to internal users can be fully controlled so that employees needing access for specific functions, such as the help desk, imaging or reporting, can only connect to the servers relevant to their work. In addition to monitoring access, Bomgar Privileged Access records every session for a detailed audit trail, which has proven helpful for troubleshooting when a vendor’s actions create an unanticipated problem.
