The Challenge
The airline's employees often work remotely using company laptops, exposing them to potential security threats from unsecured networks. The company also faced the challenge of complying with strict European GDPR regulations and Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority requirements for data security. The company needed a security solution that could protect its users and data, regardless of their location. The solution also needed to be scalable and capable of integrating other solutions to further improve the level of protection.
About The Customer
The customer is a large private airline in Turkey that has been in operation since the 1990s. The airline has a goal of delivering low-cost airline services to everyone in Turkey and has invested heavily in innovative technologies to achieve this. The airline has made significant strides in the aviation industry, including a $12 billion order of 100 new Airbus aircraft in 2012, the largest order at the time. In 2018, the airline partnered with Immfly to deliver onboard digital services to its customers. The airline has transported more than 30 million customers since its inception.
The Solution
The airline partnered with Forcepoint to implement a cloud-based security solution. The Forcepoint Web Security solution was already on-premises, so the company expanded the partnership to take security to the cloud. The proof of concept demonstrated how easy the solution was to operate, manage, and control. The solution expands the same powerful security of the Forcepoint Web Security on-premises solution to remote and roaming users—both on and off the corporate network. This ensures that employees taking their laptops on the road to unsecured locations will not unintentionally introduce malicious software to the company network. The airline also added Forcepoint Data Loss Prevention (DLP) to safeguard all of its data, wherever it resides.
Operational Impact
  • The transition to cloud-based security allowed the airline to eliminate hardware costs and reduce maintenance effort.
  • The solution automatically delivers high availability, protecting users wherever they work.
  • The solution helped the company realize a significant increase in productivity by preventing employees from accidentally downloading malware.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Forcepoint DLP documented more than 400 terabytes of data throughout the airline’s data center systems, databases, and cloud-based systems in just 3 months.
