The Challenge
The bank was facing several challenges due to the rapid growth in mobile banking, disparate process modeling standards and tools, regulatory compliance risks, rising costs, and the market impacts from AI. The bank needed to tackle these challenges to continue its growth and maintain its position as a leader in the banking industry. The bank also wanted to leverage the advances in computational power and machine learning algorithms to disrupt the banking industry with AI. However, the bank needed a solution that could handle the skyrocketing uptake in mobile and online banking, growing inefficiencies due to disparate process modeling standards and tools, and rapidly rising costs.
About The Customer
The customer is a leading American bank that has been at the forefront of innovation since its inception. Over the past decade, its mobile banking platform has grown to millions of users. The bank offers a full range of banking, investment, asset management, and other financial services to tens of millions of consumers and small business customers at thousands of retail financial centers and ATMs. It operates in all 50 states and many countries, with thousands of employees responsible for billions in revenue in 2016. The bank has been wildly successful, but it is always looking for ways to innovate and improve its services.
The Solution
The bank partnered with Software AG to embark on a digital transformation. They implemented webMethods, then ARIS, and built their future on the Software AG Digital Business Platform. This platform was capable of tackling new regulatory guidance, migrating to a custom ARIS 9.8 solution and installation, and handling the bank’s emergent security and scope constraints with an architecture designed for multi-environment, multi-node, high availability. The bank also created a Process Excellence Delivery Center (PEDC) with the help of Software AG's design experts. This enterprise-wide strategic business tool was designed and deployed using ARIS, meeting all of the bank's emerging needs: scalability, stability, security, and regulatory compliance.
Operational Impact
  • The bank achieved a dramatic streamlining of technology and operations: simpler architectures, lower risks, and saved costs.
  • The bank was able to deploy a properly sized architecture, implement a “hands-free” custom Red Hat® Linux® 7.3 package, and deliver a PEDC exceeding all expectations.
  • The platform now supports more than 3,000 transactions per second across various business lines, better positioning the bank to share information and serve the needs of its customers.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced operating costs by $9 million a year on a single project
  • Cut response times dramatically
  • The platform now supports more than 3,000 transactions per second across various business lines
