The Challenge
The Everett Clinic was facing challenges with their data center and network performance. Any issues in these areas could directly impact patient care, which they were striving to eliminate or reduce. The clinic's data center is their central site and enables the delivery of their applications. If it doesn’t perform, patient care can be negatively impacted. For instance, their primary system for maintaining electronic health records, Epic, is a huge multi-tiered application suite that includes several smaller applications that all bounce from server to server, gathering data requests from different sources and funneling back responses to their clinical and administrative teams. When a doctor in an exam room wants real-time patient data, he uses the Epic system. If the performance among these servers and applications runs too slow, it can result in poor patient care.
About The Customer
The Everett Clinic is a healthcare provider with 2,200 employees and serves 307,000 patients with 880,000 annual visits. The clinic uses a data center as their central site to enable the delivery of their applications. One of their primary systems is Epic, a system for maintaining electronic health records. This system is a huge multi-tiered application suite that includes several smaller applications that all bounce from server to server, gathering data requests from different sources and funneling back responses to their clinical and administrative teams. The performance of these servers and applications is critical to the clinic's ability to provide patient care.
The Solution
The Everett Clinic decided to implement the OptiView XG, a mobile tester that provides hop-to-hop diagnostics in the data center and integrates seamlessly into TruView, their existing monitoring system. The OptiView XG is deployed in the data center 24/7 to provide hop-to-hop analysis in support of the TruView monitoring system. When the IT team needs to dive in and get detailed packet information, the XG delivers. The larger TruView system identifies issues and helps the IT team tweak and adjust the network. Adding the OptiView XG allows the clinic to run hop-to-hop diagnostics in the data center and integrate the data automatically and seamlessly into TruView.
Operational Impact
  • The OptiView XG provides a way to automate the clinic's analysis efforts while still leveraging the full power of TruView.
  • The mobile functionality of the OptiView XG is available if needed.
  • NetScout, the provider of OptiView XG, regularly releases new features and functionality, providing long-term value over the product’s entire lifecycle.
