The Challenge
Locknet, a company providing IT security and compliance services, was facing a challenge with their vulnerability assessment process. The process was time-consuming and required technicians to travel to each customer site, which was not cost-effective. The company intended to use vulnerability assessments as a foundation for offering other security services, but the assessments themselves were taking up too much time. Locknet IT Solutions is a company headquartered in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The company was originally founded to provide IT security and compliance services to the financial sector. Over the past few years, Locknet has been rolling out managed security services to a range of companies, including financial institutions, insurance firms, law firms, and small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The company provides managed security services to 400 customers, managing 2,500 end devices for customers. The company was looking for a way to conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments from a centralized, remote location.
The Solution
Locknet decided to implement BeyondTrust's Retina Network Security Scanner, a comprehensive vulnerability assessment tool with remote capabilities and customizable reporting. Unlike other scanners, Retina doesn't require administrative access to remote systems, allowing IT professionals at managed service providers to scan their clients' networks from a central location. When new vulnerabilities are discovered, technicians have the flexibility to run scans from home, the road, or a branch office. BeyondTrust's vulnerability assessment solution is part of a larger integrated threat management suite, designed to work with the Retina Endpoint Protection Platform and the Retina CS Threat Management Platform. With Retina CS in place, MSPs can distribute Retina to multiple customer sites and still maintain centralized control. An intuitive user interface and installation wizards make running a scan simple and quick.
