The Challenge
Malt, an online freelancer marketplace, was facing challenges with its data ingestion process which was slowing down analysis. The existing custom-built ingestion framework lacked performance and reliability, and the company was spending too much time debugging data pipelines. The company's Head of Data, Olivier Girardot, was tasked with enabling a small analytics team to access insights and deliver maximum value to the business with fewer resources. The company needed a consistent, automated approach that could be run by two engineers. One of the main objectives was to analyze data from digital advertising to maximize advertising spend. Another challenge was regulatory compliance. Malt needed a solution that protected the personal information of freelancers when their data was moved to the data warehouse, ensuring it was kept within the European Union.
About The Customer
Malt is an online freelancer marketplace that connects 30,000 organizations with 250,000 freelancers across France, Spain, and Germany. It is a unique data-driven marketplace that leverages leading-edge technology to match skills to projects in an efficient, transparent, and compliant way for both parties. The scale-up has created a unique tech solution that ensures a compliant and seamless workflow management from the sourcing of the freelancers to the project payment. Malt's mission is to 'do more with less' and enable a small analytics team to access insights and deliver the maximum value to the business.
The Solution
Malt found its solution in Fivetran, a connector product that delivered the reliability and compliance needed. Fivetran transmits rather than stores the data, ensuring compliance with regulations. The growth in data volumes was higher than Malt anticipated, but with Fivetran connectors, they started to discover endless possibilities to connect more use cases. Besides analyzing the response from online advertising platforms, Malt started taking data from Mandrill, an email marketing tool, to track the most effective way to communicate with clients. Salesforce data is refreshed daily at 15-minute intervals to register and update the status of thousands of clients, ensuring profiles are always up to date. New data sources like MongoDB and GitHub are now available for analysis because Fivetran connectors make access quick and easy.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.
