The Challenge
Finter Bank Zürich, an independent Swiss private bank, was facing performance limitations with its legacy reporting solution. The bank was using a management information system (MIS) based on manual Excel spreadsheet software analyses, which was becoming increasingly complex and error-prone. The time spent producing necessary reports was constantly growing, leading to delays. The old MIS was completely geared to the old system and was no longer capable of meeting new challenges. The bank needed an efficient, up-to-date solution designed around the new infrastructure.
About The Customer
Finter Bank Zürich is an independent Swiss private bank that is committed to introducing new solutions for private banking. The bank has developed a strategy oriented towards fair relationship banking and the needs of a private bank’s customer base. It also gears its organisational structures with regard to the demands of its international customers. In the course of a reorganisation operation to strengthen and consolidate its market position, Finter Bank designed a new IT infrastructure including the deployment of the new APSYS/SunGard private banking solution. The bank has a staff of around 130 and handles assets for its international customers in various countries worldwide.
The Solution
Finter Bank decided to implement QlikView to accommodate the demands of a modern management information system (MIS). The aim of the new MIS was to ensure fast access to relevant data. The bank needed an efficient reporting system to track the KPIs for the strategic and operational management of its business. The solution had to be capable of tapping into various data sources—from the core banking system, via the customer application, all the way to Excel—to produce meaningful analyses. The implementation of QlikView advanced quickly. After only three months the first MIS version was up and running and after a total of six months, the final version was fully operational.
Operational Impact
  • With QlikView, managers at Finter Bank have at their fingertips a whole range of data which is reliable and relevant to any necessary decisions. It provides them at any time with the latest data on their customers, products, and transactions.
  • The time spent on producing reports has been significantly reduced, and ad hoc databank enquiries via the IT department have also been significantly reduced, because these are now handled as standard operations using QlikView.
  • Adjustments to take account of any new business conditions can also be implemented without any great additional expenditure.
Quantitative Benefit
  • First MIS version was up and running after only three months
  • Final version was fully operational after a total of six months
