The Challenge
Hauni Maschinenbau, a mechanical engineering company for the international tobacco industry, faced the challenge of integrating several companies with disparate databases into a single tool. The company needed a solution that could trace procurement activity outside of the standard procurement channels, such as 'purchasing mavericks' and unauthorized decentralized purchasing by departments. The lack of a unified system made it difficult to track and manage procurement activities effectively, leading to inefficiencies and potential losses.
About The Customer
Hauni Maschinenbau is a manufacturing company in the industrial machinery sector. The company specializes in mechanical engineering for the international tobacco industry and is recognized as the world market and technology leader in tobacco processing solutions, filter, and cigarette manufacture. Hauni Maschinenbau is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, and is part of the Körber group. The company has a significant presence with 3,750 employees across 20 sites and generated a turnover of €685 million in 2008.
The Solution
Hauni Maschinenbau implemented QlikView as an information platform for the analysis and reporting of purchasing. The solution provided a purchasing cockpit that ensured flexible analysis by approximately 30 employees. It also facilitated supplier controls with standardized quality indicators for meaningful supplier assessment. Furthermore, QlikView enabled purchasing controls with detailed commodity class presentation and analysis. This comprehensive solution provided Hauni Maschinenbau with a unified tool to manage and monitor its procurement activities effectively.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.
