The Challenge
Kanthal, a leading producer of heating wire for consumer products and complete heating systems for industrial applications, was facing several challenges. The company wanted to increase control and improve accountability within the sales process. They also aimed to simplify and improve the efficiency of data gathering and report generation. Another challenge was to reduce their reliance on outside vendors for system manipulation. These challenges were hindering the company's growth and efficiency, and they needed a solution that could address these issues effectively.
About The Customer
Kanthal is a part of Sandvik Materials Technology, a subsidiary of the Swedish industrial giant, Sandvik Group. The company is a leading producer of heating wire for consumer products and complete heating systems for industrial applications. The company was established in the early 20th century after the discovery of the Kanthal alloy and its ideal properties for electrical heating elements. Kanthal is headquartered in Hallstahammar, Sweden. The company has achieved approximately $300 million in revenue with a workforce of 1,400 employees. The company operates in the Mill Products industry.
The Solution
To address the challenges, Kanthal deployed QlikView to 40 users across four functions in Sweden. These functions included Sales Analysis, Supply Chain Analysis, Operational Analysis, and Financial Analysis. The Sales Analysis function was used to analyze product quantities, margins, orders, and invoicing by country. The Supply Chain Analysis function was used to monitor delivery reliability. The Operational Analysis function was used to track production lead times. The Financial Analysis function was used to assess pricing strategies. The implementation of QlikView was rapid, with the first application being implemented in less than a week. The company leveraged QlikView Server (64-bit) to aggregate data from the Movex ERP system and Excel.
