The Challenge
Meander Medical Centre, an award-winning healthcare institution in the Netherlands, moved into a new facility in 2013. The new facility was designed with a state-of-the-art information communications technology (ICT) infrastructure. The hospital's IT team needed to provide secure access to the hospital's IT network for its extensive medical equipment and application suppliers. These suppliers needed access to maintain and support their solutions and track and report on results. The hospital had approximately 80 suppliers who needed access to their network, making it critical to provide access in a way that complies with government regulations concerning healthcare information security. Setting up virtual private network (VPN) connections for each of the suppliers was an unattractive option due to the high skill level required, the maintenance costs, and the inability to audit what was happening during remote sessions.
About The Customer
Meander Medical Centre is an award-winning healthcare institution located in Amersfoort, Netherlands. The hospital is designed to encourage a connection with natural surroundings throughout the campus and offers only private rooms, creating a healing environment where patients can gain more rest, leading to a quicker recovery. The hospital moved into its new facility in 2013, which was designed with a state-of-the-art information communications technology (ICT) infrastructure. The hospital relies heavily on suppliers to provide the latest healthcare technologies that help them serve their patients. They have approximately 80 suppliers who need access to their network.
The Solution
After conducting research on possible solutions, the hospital chose Bomgar's Embassy solution. This solution enables the hospital to create safe and controllable multi-platform access for its vendors. Suppliers now have secure remote access to the hospital's network to perform maintenance on their equipment, and the hospital has an audit trail stored behind its firewall so it can see what actions are taken during remote sessions. Bomgar Embassy allows the hospital to control granularly who has access to specific systems and when they have access. With Bomgar’s concurrent license model, there is no limitation to the number of vendors that can be granted remote access or the number of servers and systems that receive support. The hospital has blocked the use of all other remote support tools, making the use of Bomgar mandatory in its environment and part of its IT purchase conditions.
Operational Impact
  • The hospital now has a secure and controllable multi-platform access for its vendors.
  • The hospital has an audit trail stored behind its firewall so it can see what actions are taken during remote sessions.
  • The hospital can control granularly who has access to specific systems and when they have access.
