The Challenge
DTI, a leading provider of in-house and outsourced legal services and technology solutions, was facing a significant challenge in terms of data security and vulnerability management. The company had no visibility into its vulnerabilities, which was a major concern given the sensitivity of the data they handle. They had initially tried to resolve the issue using a combination of services and tactical products, but soon realized that they needed a more structured approach. The pressure from external auditors and compliance mandates also necessitated the need for continuous refinement of their internal processes to improve their overall risk profile. DTI needed a mature vulnerability management solution that provided a significant level of flexibility and scalability, delegation, automation and comprehensive reporting features for compliance purposes.
About The Customer
DTI is the nation’s largest independent provider of in-house and outsourced legal services and technology solutions. The company has established service centers in major legal markets across the U.S. and maintains a client list including Fortune 500 corporations and AmLaw 100 law firms. DTI provides discovery and document review services, legal business process outsourcing and facilities management. The security, integrity and privacy of client data entrusted to DTI’s hosting services are a critical focus of day-to-day operational activities. DTI provides forensic experts that can be referenced in court to provide factual evidence based on the processed and collected data; which can be converted from paper form into digital form. DTI’s data security and privacy standards are among the industry’s best practices. DTI’s Information Security and Compliance team is responsible for all aspects related to protecting the confidentiality, privacy and integrity of client and corporate data for DTI.
The Solution
After evaluating the competition, DTI chose Retina CS as their solution of choice. Retina CS offered optimal scalability, allowing DTI to deploy engines and licenses based on wherever they wanted to deploy them. Retina’s results-driven reporting and analytics capabilities gave DTI the ability to pinpoint risks while automating compliance management for corporate policies, government regulations, and industry standards. Retina CS also offered an add-on patch management capability which integrated into their existing Windows Server Update Services patch management infrastructure. This allowed DTI to have a more hands-on approach so that controls could be placed internally. With Retina seamlessly deployed in all of DTI’s National Technology Data Centers, the team was able to do an accurate baseline for assessment activities involving all external devices.
Operational Impact
  • Retina CS successfully met the strong security demands of DTI while bringing risk into focus enterprise-wide for the organization.
  • The solution has helped DTI effectively communicate risk and report vulnerability management progress to executives and compliance auditors.
  • Retina also delivers customized, relevant and actionable data in a wide variety of report formats to DTI.
