The Challenge
SRG Global, a leading manufacturer of high value coatings on plastic, aims to capitalize on opportunities by increasing the efficiency of its manufacturing operations. The company was looking for innovative ways to drive efficiencies to make it more competitive in the marketplace. The challenge was to track the effectiveness of its people and processes on the shop floor. The company was using spreadsheets to track its production processes, which was a labor-intensive process. The data had to be manually collated and shared within the organization for further analysis.
About The Customer
SRG Global, a Guardian company, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high value coatings on plastic. The company engineers solutions globally for greater surface durability, structural integrity, enhanced functionality, vehicle efficiency and optimal design flexibility. As global economic recovery gathers pace, automotive and consumer products manufacturers are striving to increase their output—creating valuable opportunities for original equipment manufacturers throughout the value chain. SRG Global aims to capitalize on these opportunities by increasing the efficiency of its manufacturing operations.
The Solution
SRG Global decided to replace its spreadsheets with an integrated, real-time analytics platform based on IBM Analytics solutions. The new platform includes IBM® Cognos® Business Intelligence software, enabling SRG Global to automate its data collection and reporting processes. Working together with IBM Premier Business Partner NUNSYS, SRG Global integrated data from 10 separate business systems and multiple physical sensors to a central data warehouse—enabling it to capture and analyze millions of data points rapidly. SRG Global defined a range of key metrics to monitor its production processes in real time. The company can now track these fine-grained metrics via real-time dashboards—enabling the actionable insights it needs to achieve its growth goals.

Improving Vending Machine Profitability with the Internet of Things (IoT)
The vending industry is undergoing a sea change, taking advantage of new technologies to go beyond just delivering snacks to creating a new retail location. Intelligent vending machines can be found in many public locations as well as company facilities, selling different types of goods and services, including even computer accessories, gold bars, tickets, and office supplies. With increasing sophistication, they may also provide time- and location-based data pertaining to sales, inventory, and customer preferences. But at the end of the day, vending machine operators know greater profitability is driven by higher sales and lower operating costs.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).
