The Challenge
Texas Health Huguley Hospital, part of the Adventist Health System, was facing a significant challenge in managing security for its complex operations. The hospital was dealing with life and death situations on a daily basis, and ensuring the security of staff, patients, newborns, and emergency room patients was a massive task. In addition to the day-to-day security concerns, the hospital also had to comply with heavy regulations in meeting HIPAA requirements to protect patient information and privacy. The hospital had experience with other access control systems, but found them to be highly proprietary. They wanted an open system that they could have better control over, and could work more closely with their integrator during installation and programming.
About The Customer
Texas Health Huguley Hospital is located in Ft. Worth and is a member of the Adventist Health System. The Adventist Health System has 46 hospital campuses and more than 8,300 licensed beds in 10 states. The facilities of the Adventist Health System serve more than 4.7 million patients annually. Hospitals are complex operations with life and death situations playing out on a constant basis. Ensuring security for staff and patients, newborns, and emergency room patients is a significant challenge. In addition to day-to-day security concerns, hospitals have heavy regulations in meeting HIPAA requirements to protect patient information and privacy.
The Solution
The hospital decided to install the 3xLOGIC infinias access control system throughout their campus. Currently, about 75 doors are under management and the hospital forecasts a total of 170 doors will be covered upon full deployment. The system can be run to any location, whether networked or not. This flexibility allows the hospital to extend the system to a building a couple of miles away, ensuring that their badges work in both locations. After completing 3xLOGIC certification training, the hospital's Safety and Security Manager and Head Locksmith are now able to better manage the installation and programming for the system, saving substantial time and money.
Operational Impact
  • The infinias system can easily be expanded at the original location, to the newly-built tower on campus, and to a remote facility miles away.
  • All users are divided into about 50 groups, each group with separate, programmed access based on day, time, location and length of access privilege.
  • The hospital frequently accesses the Events Log to confirm events and solve any issues that arise.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Currently, about 75 doors are under management and the hospital forecasts a total of 170 doors will be covered upon full deployment.
  • After completing 3xLOGIC certification training, the hospital's Safety and Security Manager and Head Locksmith are now able to better manage the installation and programming for the system, saving substantial time and money.
