The Challenge

The company had to manage 23,000 employees, 128 different union codes, 1,200 labor codes, and 432 deduction codes. The company was also facing challenges in bringing new employees up to speed due to the complexity of the system. The company was also facing challenges in managing the large amount of paperwork and maintaining the integrity of their service.
About The Customer
Union Payroll Agency, Inc. (UPA) is a company that provides setup and production crews for entertainment and trade shows. Some of their clients include Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Cirque du Soleil shows. The company is based in Rocklin, California and has nine employees. UPA operates in 20 states and two Canadian provinces, serving almost every major metro area in North America. The company grosses upward of $15 million and has been recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in Silicon Valley.
The Solution
UPA implemented Sage 100 ERP with a full complement of financial modules for complete automation of complex state-specific reimbursement packages. The software prepares weekly, biweekly, and monthly paychecks, depending on the union contract, and also calculates health and welfare, pension, training, and annuity benefits. The software has reduced the time it takes to bring new employees up to speed and has also reduced the amount of paperwork the company has to manage. The company's Sage business partner also helped them locate a union payroll module to automate a lot of their paperwork and assisted them with writing specialty reports.
