The Almond Board of California is a prominent organization representing over 6,000 almond growers and 104 handlers. Headquartered in California, the board oversees various aspects of almond production, including nutrition and market research, advertising and promotions in both domestic and international markets, quality control, and statistical analysis and dissemination. The board is composed of a 10-member panel and works closely with the Secretary of Agriculture to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. John Joyner, the Director of IT, is responsible for managing the IT strategy and day-to-day operations, ensuring that the organization's technological needs are met efficiently.

To address these challenges, the Almond Board of California implemented Barracuda Backup 690, Barracuda Message Archiver 350, and Barracuda Spam Firewall 300. Barracuda Backup provided a unified, cost-efficient data protection solution that integrated backup software, local storage, and remote storage. The solution was rapidly deployed, reducing the time needed to manage backups by close to 80%. The advanced deduplication technology significantly reduced the storage footprint for their virtual and physical environments, including Microsoft Hyper V, Microsoft Exchange, and SQL databases. For offsite storage, the organization utilized Barracuda Cloud Storage, which offered unlimited cloud storage and fixed, predictable costs for replication. This setup allowed for long-term retention and offsite vaulting, meeting regulatory and compliance needs while freeing up local storage for additional revisions.

System requirements: In the past, most environmental control systems of orchid greenhouses in Taiwan used PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller) with poorscalability and control, and could not be connected to the Internet formonitoring from the cloud. For advanced database analysis and networking capability, the PC platform must be adopted. Therefore, PAC Systems (Programmable Automation Controller) with both PLC programming capabilities andPC functions is a better choice.The environmental control of the Orchid greenhouse switches on and off devices like fan, shade net, cooling/heat pump, liquid flow control, water-cooling wall etc. It is controlled by a control panel of electric controllers, and is driven by a motor, to adjust the greenhouse temperature, humidity, and other environmental conditions to the set parameters.
