The Challenge
The customer, a Tier-1 Telecommunication Operator and Internet Service Provider, was facing ongoing growth of Internet traffic capacity resulting in increased load on its services and data centers. The growth in traffic was projected to intensely continue in the coming years. The challenge was to maintain best Quality of Experience (QoE) for end users and to ensure Service Level Agreement (SLA) and service continuity while addressing aggressive traffic capacity growth. The desired solution must eliminate capacity growth risks by providing additional room for growth of services, throughput and other metrics, as well as protecting the current investment in equipment, people and knowledge.
About The Customer
The customer is a Tier-1 Telecommunication Operator and Internet Service Provider, and one of the largest in Europe. It provides landline, mobile and Internet services to more than 100 Million subscribers across several countries with dozens of billions of Euros in annual revenues and more than 150,000 employees. For the past eight years, the customer has been deploying the Alteon Application Switches across multiple data centers and has been benefitting from them.
The Solution
The Service Provider selected Radware’s Alteon Application Switch solution due to its ability to meet all the customer’s high-end performance requirements and its unique business benefits and the best price-performance solution compared to any other solution on the market. Eighteen Alteon 5412 Application Switches were deployed across four Data Centers, providing Application Delivery capabilities for the DNS servers and for the Firewalls at the Data Centers. Each Alteon 5412 was capable not only of meeting – but also exceeding - the customer requirement of 1M DNS QPS.
Operational Impact
  • With multiple Alteon 5412 deployed across the Data Centers, the Service Provider is now able to increase its DNS resolving capacity 6-fold - from 700K to 4M DNS QPS - and to meet its current and future requirements.
  • The Alteon Application Switch solution guarantees service continuity to this critical service as it is deployed in HighAvailability network topology utilizing Alteon’s enhanced implementation for High-Availability.
  • The Service Provider managed to reduce its operational expenditure, such as training and integration costs, by choosing to upgrade its existing Alteon 3408 units to the latest Alteon 5412.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Increased DNS resolving capacity 6-fold - from 700K to 4M DNS QPS
  • Reduced operational expenditure
