The Challenge

Barcelona’s heavy traffic and its associated high levels of pollution were the primary factors that motivated some companies and universities to work on strategies for improving traffic in the city centre. Bitcarrier is one of the technologies involved in the In4Mo Project, whose main objective is to develop the applications that form the core of smart mobility, one of the fundamental pillars of the smart city concept.

The Solution

Bitcarrier is a real-time intelligent traffic management and information solution for urban environments. It is specifically designed to satisfy the needs of local authorities to optimize traffic. The Bitcarrier solution was implemented in the city of Barcelona in order to track routes and vehicles. The data audited by its urban sensors was integrated with the data from other existing technologies and, in this way, a reliable and accurate system was created for enriched, value-added data analysis.

Data Collected
Pollutants detection, Routes, Traffic Behavior, Traffic Congestion Levels, Vehicle Location Tracking
Operational Impact
  • [Process Optimization - Real Time Asset Tracking]
The location of individuals and assets can be identified in near real-time.
  • [Data Management - Data Analysis]
Bitcarrier's sophisticated algorithms make it possible to compare data captured by other existing technologies, as well as to evaluate its efficiency and reliability.
  • [Data Management - Data Analysis]
Cloud solutions enable aggregation of 'big data' to enable more robust analysis and lower costs.
