The Challenge
MAN Energy Solutions, a leading supplier of large diesel engines and turbo machines, was grappling with a complex, hardware-intensive workflow system that was prone to failure. The system was built with a single point of failure, which meant that when it went down, it caused widespread productivity issues. Repairs and maintenance were not only expensive but also required intervention from a UK-based team, adding to the complexity and inefficiency. The intricate workflow design intimidated many of the company's users, which further impacted company-wide adoption and efficiencies. MAN Energy Solutions needed a less complex workflow solution that would optimize its investment in SharePoint technologies, reduce overhead, improve productivity, and enhance business process automation.
About The Customer
MAN Energy Solutions is a subsidiary of German mechanical engineering company MAN SE. It is a leading supplier of large diesel engines and turbo machines, with a staff of over 15,000 located at more than 100 sites internationally. The company is based in Augsburg, Germany, and comprises four business units: Engines & Marine Systems, Power Plants, Turbo Machinery, and After Sales. Its product line includes two and four-stroke engines, gas and steam turbines, compressors, turbo chargers, controllable pitch propellers, gas engines, and chemical reactors.
The Solution
In collaboration with its IT partner Innofactor Denmark, MAN Energy Solutions decided to deploy a Nintex Workflow-based solution. Nintex Workflow is a powerful, easy-to-use workflow designer that improves business processes and delivers a rapid return on investment. It integrates seamlessly with other systems, tools, and services in the IT environment, and boosts and extends SharePoint functionality. MAN Energy Solutions uses Nintex Workflow with its Atlas intranet, with two front-end servers that support about 50 workflows of varying size and complexity. The Nintex solution greatly simplified workflow approval processes, reduced licensing costs, and increased system reliability. The Nintex multi-point failover reduced downtime to nearly nothing, and the ease-of-use of the Nintex solution enabled business-side employees to build workflows on their own.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of the Nintex Workflow-based solution brought about significant operational improvements for MAN Energy Solutions. The company was able to simplify its workflow approval processes and reduce licensing costs. The Nintex multi-point failover increased system reliability dramatically, reducing downtime to nearly nothing. This resulted in a more stable platform and minimized productivity outages. The automation provided by Nintex Workflow enabled the company to reduce time and significantly improve quality. It also allowed the company to transform longer IT projects like SharePoint solutions or web apps into workflow-based solutions, reducing development and ultimately, costs. The ease-of-use of the Nintex solution empowered business-side employees to build workflows on their own, enhancing efficiency and productivity.
