The Challenge
ConferenceLabs is a company that aims to disrupt the $4B worldwide audio conferencing market by offering a free conference service with a visually appealing interface. They are focused on providing features such as the ability to record, save, and download calls, as well as make custom greetings via text-to-speech for a branded conference experience. However, they faced challenges in finding a reliable voice partner that could offer API access, support their growth with a robust and scalable network, and maintain high quality of service and security integrity.
About The Customer
ConferenceLabs is a UK-based startup launched in 2014. The company provides a free 1-click audio conferencing service and is focused on developing innovative solutions to disrupt the traditional audio conferencing market. Their platform offers instant conference calls with no contracts or fees, combined with an innovative web interface. The use of an API allows users to see who’s on a call, who’s talking at any time, and lets them manage calls in real time with a robust feature set. Users can mute participants, add ‘earmuffs’ (excluding them from the conversation), and drop guests. They also provide custom greetings via text-to-speech for a branded conference experience, and the ability to record, save, and download calls. Their approach combines standard PSTN with a web platform, which means users can still dial into the service via any phone line, without requiring internet access.
The Solution
ConferenceLabs chose to partner with Plivo for their voice API access. Plivo's voice API was integrated into ConferenceLab’s web application and was used to manage SIP on inbound calls. This allowed users to control calls via a simple web-based visual interface. Plivo was chosen for its reliability, scalability, global reach, and trust. Plivo provides great 24/7 support and guaranteed uptime. Their robust and scalable network infrastructure supports over 100 participants on a single call. Plivo also provides calling to over 200 countries and local numbers in over 50 countries, which was crucial for ConferenceLabs' global reach.

Vodafone Hosted On AWS
Vodafone found that traffic for the applications peak during the four-month period when the international cricket season is at its height in Australia. During the 2011/2012 cricket season, 700,000 consumers downloaded the Cricket Live Australia application. Vodafone needed to be able to meet customer demand, but didn’t want to invest in additional resources that would be underutilized during cricket’s off-season.
