American Cementing, a leader in cementing services for the oil and gas industry, was grappling with inefficiencies in their operations due to manual and paper-based administrative processes. The field technicians had to deal with a plethora of paper documents such as pre-inspection reports and fuel receipts before operating heavy equipment at well sites. This not only increased the chances of human error but also slowed down the process. The back-office team was also burdened with the task of managing the paperwork manually. Additionally, the payroll process was time-consuming and prone to inaccuracies as driver logs and the internal payroll software were not integrated. This led to issues such as inaccurate payments and a lowered employee experience when drivers forgot to log off once they were off duty.

American Cementing is a leading provider of cementing services for the oil and gas industry. The company operates eight sites and employs over 400 people. They have a fleet of over 400 vehicles and 1,100+ trailers. The company is committed to innovation and efficiency in its operations. However, they were facing challenges in their operations due to manual and paper-based administrative processes. The company needed a solution that would seamlessly connect the field and back-office operations, reduce the possibility of human error, streamline payroll processes, and improve the overall employee experience.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, American Cementing implemented Samsara's IoT solutions. They installed over 400 Vehicle Gateways across their fleet and introduced the Samsara Driver App to their field technicians. This allowed both the frontline and back-office teams to go completely paperless. Customized DVIRs were created with specific fields for function tests to make pre-job equipment inspection reports more efficient. They also integrated Samsara Documents with data from their fuel payment provider FLEETCOR Comdata, eliminating weeks of processing time and streamlining fuel management. Technicians could now scan their receipts with their mobile device and share them instantly with the back office, ensuring accurate fuel purchase tracking and tax compliance. Furthermore, they integrated their internal payroll software with Samsara to automate payroll processes and improve the employee experience. The back-office team could now remotely sign out drivers from the Driver App, significantly improving the accuracy of driver hours and payroll.
