The Challenge
Recently a university in Taiwan was experiencing dramatic power usage increases due to its growing number of campus buildings and students. Aiming to analyze their power consumption and increase their power efficiency across 52 buildings, the university wanted to build a power management system utilizing web-based hardware and software. With these goals in mind, they contacted Advantech to help them develop their system and provide them with the means to save energy in the years to come.
About The Customer
A Taiwan university
The Solution
To create a power management system across 52 campus buildings to monitor and improve the management of power consumption, and guarantee efficient energy usage. The ability to monitor power consumption at each building in real-time, forecast power demands, adjust power consumption, and improve power management. Take advantage of the features of their network to create a power consumption inquiry system. To create a real-time display system to show the power use conditions in each building, in order to push forward and advocate power saving around the whole campus.
The power monitoring computer workstation uses WebAccess HMI tocollect data and show status. The system is used to analyze and compare the data and then take appropriate action to reduce power consumption and save energy. In order to ensure that the data will not be lost when there is no network connection, BAS-3520 DDC Controller is connected to digital multimeter. Then data can be stored temporarily on local computer and will be uploaded when the connection is resumed to ensure the integrity of data.

Intelligent Building Automation System and Energy Saving Solution
One of the most difficult problems facing the world is conserving energy in buildings. However, it is not easy to have a cost-effective solution to reduce energy usage in a building. One solution for saving energy is to implement an intelligent building automation system (BAS) which can be controlled according to its schedule. In Indonesia a large university with a five floor building and 22 classrooms wanted to save the amount of energy being used.
