The Challenge
Fraikin Ltd, one of the largest providers of commercial vehicle contract hire and rental solutions in the UK, was seeking to differentiate itself in the market. The company aimed to evolve from being a mere supplier of vehicles to a provider of comprehensive fleet management solutions. To achieve this, Fraikin needed a way to measure and analyze critical data insights that could help its 200+ customers optimize their fleet operations. The challenge was to find a solution that could provide actionable data on various aspects of fleet management, including mileage, fuel efficiency, idling ratio, and vehicle downtime. The solution also needed to be easy to install and user-friendly, causing minimal disruption to the customers' operations.
About The Customer
Fraikin Ltd is a leading provider of commercial vehicle contract hire and rental solutions in the UK. The company boasts a fleet of over 5,000 vehicles and serves more than 200 customers. Fraikin aims to provide more than just vehicles to its customers; it seeks to offer comprehensive fleet management solutions that help customers optimize their operations. To this end, the company was looking for a solution that could provide actionable data insights on various aspects of fleet management, including mileage, fuel efficiency, idling ratio, and vehicle downtime.
The Solution
Fraikin adopted Samsara's IoT solutions, including AI Dash Cams, Asset Gateways, Door Monitors, Environmental Monitors, and Vehicle Gateways. These devices were fitted to Fraikin’s fleet, taking only 15 minutes per vehicle, which was 25 minutes less than the time taken by previous equipment. This reduced installation time minimized disruption and created flexibility to easily upgrade vehicles around a customer’s schedule. Remote tachograph management was also enabled for customers who wanted to access and analyze live tacho data. To ensure ease of use, Fraikin provided a 20-minute online training session, along with optional instructional videos, enabling drivers to quickly familiarize themselves with the new products.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).
