The Challenge

The client, a leading wristwatch manufacturer from Switzerland, was faced with the challenge of ensuring a smooth and error-free performance of their smartwatch product and its synchronization with the dedicated Android and iOS applications. The company was committed to offering the best possible service to their customers with their new smartwatch product. Therefore, they needed to ensure the watch’s smooth and error-free operation in combination with the dedicated Android and iOS applications. The challenge was to ensure the highest levels of service quality of the new smartwatch.

About The Customer

The customer is a leading wristwatch manufacturer from Switzerland. The company is committed to bringing both innovation and affordability with their products, and maintains a perfect balance between the two. They are dedicated to offering the best possible service to their customers with their new smartwatch product. The company needed to ensure the watch’s smooth and error-free operation in combination with the dedicated Android and iOS applications.

The Solution

N-iX took full ownership of the end-to-end testing of the client’s products. They automated and accelerated many testing activities, and removed a significant amount of manual work, which, in turn, boosted operational efficiency and optimized associated costs. The N-iX team followed the Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) approach, which involves defining and executing test scenarios based on the desired behavior of software from a business perspective. They performed end-to-end testing of the smartwatch features and investigated and tested the process of updating smartwatch firmware via mobile application. They also introduced automated testing for Android and iOS applications, automated the testing of smartwatch firmware by utilizing the Embedded Vision Processor, automated smartwatch UI testing by removing manual verification of all watch screens, and automated regression testing for both Android and iOS applications. Finally, they assisted the client in redesigning the user interface of the iOS application to enhance the user experience.

Operational Impact
  • The operational results were significant. N-iX took complete ownership over the manual and automation testing for the client’s smartwatch, as well as Android and iOS applications. This resulted in a streamlined testing process, reduced manual work, and lower operational expenses. The automation of regression testing for both Android and iOS applications eliminated the need for manual work, making the testing process faster, more accurate, and cost-efficient. The automation of UI testing enabled screen verification in multiple languages. The redesign of the user interface of the iOS application enhanced the user experience. Overall, the solution ensured a smooth update process of the smartwatch’s firmware via the iOS and Android applications.

Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced the time taken for regression testing from 3-4 days to just under 2 hours

  • Automated the testing process, eliminating the need for manual verification

  • Enabled remote bug fixing and actions on the watch
