The Challenge
Ewals Cargo Care, a full-service logistics player, was facing challenges in maintaining real-time visibility of their shipments. The company, which handles approximately 2,750 shipments each day from 30 offices across 14 countries, was struggling with delays, port congestion, and the impact of the pandemic. Despite having equipped their own fleet of trucks with GPS, the company was unable to maintain a centralized platform to aggregate all road visibility data due to the use of different onboard telematics systems by their subcontractors. This lack of a central platform led to visibility gaps and inaccurate information on loading, delivery, delays, and dwell times. The company recognized the need for real-time shipment tracking capabilities to meet increasing competitive pressures and changing customer service level expectations.
About The Customer
Ewals Cargo Care is a family-owned, full-service logistics company known for its intelligent systems, continuous innovation, and wide range of services in sectors including automotive, chemicals, consumer goods, manufacturing, and packaging industries. The company, which is synonymous with capacity, reliability, flexibility, and local expertise, handles approximately 2,750 shipments each day from 30 offices spread across 14 countries. In addition to its own fleet of trucks and trailers, Ewals collaborates with hundreds of partners to provide maximum flexibility and service for all forms of multimodal transport.
The Solution
Ewals Cargo Care partnered with Shippeo to implement a real-time and predictive visibility system. This system feeds into Ewals’ systems, enhancing the customer experience through their own control tower portal and EDI connections. The track and trace software allows Ewals to follow shipments accurately in real time from a single portal and integrate them into their planning system, regardless of the modality being used. Shippeo’s platform is a self-learning system that takes historical information into account, analyzing the constants and the variations within it, to make the ETA on routes more accurate. The platform also allows Ewals to share position information, enabling them to manage off-duty trucks and easily find off-duty trailers.

Improving Vending Machine Profitability with the Internet of Things (IoT)
The vending industry is undergoing a sea change, taking advantage of new technologies to go beyond just delivering snacks to creating a new retail location. Intelligent vending machines can be found in many public locations as well as company facilities, selling different types of goods and services, including even computer accessories, gold bars, tickets, and office supplies. With increasing sophistication, they may also provide time- and location-based data pertaining to sales, inventory, and customer preferences. But at the end of the day, vending machine operators know greater profitability is driven by higher sales and lower operating costs.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).
