The Challenge
Yottaa, a SaaS platform designed to optimize enterprise online retail websites, was seeking to deliver faster, better online shopping experiences for brands like Carter’s, Ralph Lauren, Lenovo, and GNC. The platform needed to manage the loading of 3rd party services, improve the way websites serve dynamic content, and collect a massive amount of performance, traffic, and site error data. However, Yottaa faced challenges in maintaining target metrics during peak times, preventing bottlenecks and errors, and providing consistent, smooth experiences regardless of traffic demands. Additionally, Yottaa needed to monitor its own infrastructure performance, including request throughput, bandwidth, and cache hit ratio, to better control costs and leverage partner services.
About The Customer
Yottaa is a SaaS platform designed to optimize enterprise online retail websites. It provides deep optimization and analytics that help retailers fine-tune their websites. Some of the biggest global brands run their websites on Yottaa, including Carter’s, Ralph Lauren, Lenovo, and GNC. Yottaa's platform sequences and manages the loading of 3rd party services and uses machine learning to improve the way websites serve dynamic content. It also collects a massive amount of performance, traffic, and site error data that allows the platform to continuously machine learn and improve its optimizations and provide comprehensive analytics for customers.
The Solution
Yottaa began using Fastly in early 2019 as part of a multi-CDN architecture. Fastly’s edge compute technology was deeply integrated into the Yottaa platform, giving Yottaa engineers access to the Fastly API, as well as to Fastly’s cache management and data capture capabilities. Fastly’s edge cloud network helped Yottaa maintain their target metrics more easily during peak times by caching and delivering content at the network edge. Fastly also provided robust compression capabilities, faster site flushes, and improved cache hit ratio. Furthermore, Fastly’s real-time log streaming features provided greater visibility into platform performance, enabling Yottaa to make faster, data-driven decisions. Fastly’s real-time alerting and signaling helped Yottaa’s customer success team troubleshoot quickly.
Operational Impact
  • The integration of Fastly’s edge compute technology into the Yottaa platform resulted in a number of operational benefits. Yottaa was able to deliver consistent, high-quality user experiences, leading to higher conversions and more engaged shoppers. The platform was able to monitor performance data from every customer website and every page load across all devices, browsers, and networks. Anomaly AI detected problems in real-time and the platform resolved issues when they arose. Fastly’s real-time log streaming features provided greater visibility into platform performance and enabled Yottaa to make faster, data-driven decisions. Historical logging provided a broad overview of performance trends and opportunities for optimization. The integration also allowed Yottaa to explore more ways to use Fastly’s edge computing features to improve their customer and technical metrics.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Yottaa saw a noticeable improvement in performance after moving to Fastly.
  • Fastly helped Yottaa maintain their target metrics more easily during peak times.
  • Fastly’s robust compression capabilities helped Yottaa improve asset size and delivery across the network.
