The Challenge
Trackerando, a company specializing in tailored GPS and IoT solutions, was tasked with developing a high-end GPS tracking solution for high-performance sports cars and vintage cars. The challenge was to provide 24/7 tracking across Europe with reliable connectivity. The solution had to meet rigorous insurance requirements for these high-value vehicles and cater to specific customer wishes regarding the alarm function. The main issue was that once these high-priced collector items left the showroom and were taken out on the road, insurance companies designated them as “not insurable.“ The objective was to find a service provider who had the hardware and software to offer cross-border GPS tracking and a reliable alarm function.
About The Customer
Trackerando is a young company that specializes in providing tailored GPS and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for medium-sized companies. The company operates in German-speaking countries, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Since its establishment in 2015 by General Manager Bodo Erken, Trackerando has grown to become one of the leading suppliers of real-time tracking functionality in these regions. The company's client for this case study is Heinz Schmersal, the senior managing partner of the Schmersal Group, which specializes in security technology. Schmersal is also a car enthusiast and race driver, who owns a collection of valuable vintage and sports cars.
The Solution
Trackerando used Software AG’s open IoT platform, Cumulocity IoT, to develop a flexible, tailored solution for its client. The platform receives and processes the data from the GPS tracker and visualizes it in a clear and user-friendly manner via a dashboard. The location of the individual vehicles is shown in real time on a map, and if vibrations or towing are detected, an alarm is automatically sent to the owner—via SMS, email or telephone. In addition, in case of an emergency, the authorities can be contacted immediately. To ensure reliable connectivity and seamless tracking, Trackerando partnered with A1 Digital, which provided M2M SIM cards that were built into the GPS tracker. These SIM cards ensure global network coverage in more than 150 countries and offer national roaming.
Operational Impact
  • The solution provided by Trackerando, A1 Digital, and Software AG allowed the client to take his valuable cars out on the road while still being fully insurable.
  • The GPS tracking solution developed is user-friendly and future-oriented, with a dashboard that is intuitive to operate.
  • The solution offers fast and simple installation, diverse settings, and makes a conventional alarm system superfluous.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The solution provides 24/7 tracking across Europe with reliable connectivity.
  • The alarm function can be sent to the owner via SMS, email, or telephone.
