The Challenge
Xenit, a renowned IT services provider based in Sweden, assists companies in executing their digital transformation initiatives, with a primary focus on modernizing application deployment and delivery infrastructure. However, the Xenit DevOps team faced challenges in application delivery at scale. The team was manually configuring the application delivery infrastructure, which was not only time-consuming but also prone to errors. They had to constantly balance between scaling up to ensure enough capacity for estimated demand and scaling down when demand decreased. The tools they were using were not always delivering as promised, leading to inefficiencies. Xenit needed an automated and consistent way to provide services to its customers and to scale its own service deployment and delivery.
The Customer

Xenit AB

About The Customer
Xenit is a well-established IT services provider based in Goteborg, Sweden. The company advises other businesses on how to execute their digital transformation initiatives, with a primary focus on modernizing application deployment and delivery infrastructure. Xenit's DevOps team, led by CTO Simon Gottschlag, works on aligning its customers’ development and operations teams, as well as their line-of-business groups, to become more efficient at delivering their services to market. The team also provides critical technical expertise for building resilient systems to help its customers automate at scale.
The Solution
Xenit sought a solution that worked seamlessly with Amazon Web Services (AWS), was extensible, and made application delivery easier to manage and more cost-effective. They found their solution in NetScaler, which offered auto-scaling on AWS, going beyond simple load balancing to include L4-L7 security and advanced traffic management. Using Terraform, the Xenit team converted the NetScaler-provided AWS CloudFormation templates to Terraform and used it to automatically provision all the resources needed for deploying their application, including NetScaler and Amazon Route 53. This solution provided an intuitive way to automate ADC configuration across hybrid cloud environments. With NetScaler, Xenit found a streamlined way of handling auto-scaling in AWS, allowing them to focus on applications instead of infrastructure.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of NetScaler on AWS has greatly simplified Xenit's operations. The team no longer needs to manually configure everything, and they can easily configure ADCs via the NetScaler auto-scaling dashboard. This has allowed them to shift their focus from infrastructure to applications. The auto-scaling capabilities of NetScaler on AWS have also enabled Xenit to iterate faster and deliver workloads from various AWS regions worldwide. The solution has not only made their operations more efficient but also more flexible and resilient.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Significant reduction in spend on AWS instances and NetScaler licenses
  • Cost savings from not having to overprovision instances or buy more licenses than necessary
  • Lower starting price point for Xenit customers for their own application infrastructure needs
