The Challenge
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) was struggling with the limitations of handheld devices used for capturing field work. The devices had limited functionalities and required manual operations to upload work status. This included physically connecting the devices to docking stations for data synchronization. These processes were not only cumbersome but also led to data loss or inaccuracies. The inefficiency of these devices was slowing down task completion, affecting the overall productivity of the field crews.
About The Customer
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) is a government agency responsible for the development and maintenance of transportation infrastructure in the state of Louisiana. The agency has a large field crew that carries out maintenance work across the state. Prior to the adoption of the AgileAssets® Work Manager™ mobile app, the field crews were using handheld devices with limited functionalities to capture field work. The inefficiency of these devices was slowing down task completion and affecting the overall productivity of the field crews. LaDOTD was the first agency to go live with Work Manager v7.3 after participating in a beta program.
The Solution
LaDOTD decided to embrace the digital revolution by adopting the AgileAssets® Work Manager™ mobile app. This app extends the functionality of AgileAssets® Maintenance Manager™ to tablets, smartphones, and touch laptops, providing a more flexible and efficient workflow for the field crews. The app allows the crews to manage all aspects of work orders in the field, including visualizing mapped locations, assigning labor and equipment, checking the status of assets and materials, and reviewing daily accomplishments. The app can work in both online and offline modes, enabling the crews to collect data faster and more accurately while avoiding redundant data-entry tasks. The mobile syncing feature ensures that the crews have continual access to updated data, improving the quality of information they provide for decision-making and compliance reporting.

Jason Fox, Mobile Application Architect at 3M, upped the ante by volunteering to deliver the new app in one weekend. For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
