Silicon Studio, the developer of the open-source cross-platform game engine Xenko, was looking to showcase the impressive graphical capabilities of their product. They aimed to demonstrate the engine's compatibility with VR and its ability to deliver high-quality virtual reality experiences and games. To achieve this, they needed to create a demo game, StarBreach, that would effectively highlight these features. However, they required an experienced art production team that could create high-quality game art for StarBreach. The challenge was not only to create visually appealing assets but also to demonstrate the technological possibilities of the Xenko game engine.
Silicon Studio is a Japan-based game engine developer known for creating Xenko, an open-source cross-platform game engine. Xenko is designed to be used for creating mobile and PC games with C#. It features forward clustered rendering, making it highly compatible with VR and capable of delivering quality virtual reality experiences and games. Silicon Studio sought to demonstrate these capabilities through a demo game, StarBreach, and required an experienced art production team to create high-quality game art that would effectively showcase the engine's potential.
N-iX, a professional art production team, was brought on board to create 2D concepts for the StarBreach demo game. Based on these concepts, their 3D artists created PBR (Physically Based Rendering) graphical assets for the game presentation at GDC 2016. The team worked closely with Silicon Studio to understand their requirements and the capabilities of the Xenko game engine. They were able to establish effective communication with the client, which helped them to attain the stated objectives. The team delivered a number of appealing assets that revealed the benefits of the Xenko game engine, particularly its potential in the VR domain. The art assets were successfully integrated into the engine, enhancing the user experience.
