The Challenge
Nemours Children’s Health System had a big challenge around electronic information: It needed to change its culture, to move to a model where staff started pursuing data versus just receiving data. The organization wanted to shift from repeatedly building dashboards and reports to really enabling the organization. They wanted to bring all their relevant data from any system, across finance, patient care and the overall business, into one place for analysis.
About The Customer
Nemours Children’s Health System is a multi-state pediatric health system of hospitals and clinics. It provides hospitalization, clinic, primary and specialty medical services, disease research, education, advocacy, and prevention programs to children, adolescents, and young adults. The health system was facing a challenge around electronic information and needed to change its culture to a model where staff started pursuing data versus just receiving data.
The Solution
Nemours Children’s Health System turned to data analytics and data integration technology vendor Qlik. They used Qlik Sense to bring all their relevant data from any system, across finance, patient care and the overall business, into one place for analysis. The technology solution was intuitive and easy to use, and it helped users easily explore more data relevant to their functions. The solution enabled the administration to see overall trends in the data for macro decisions, but also helped specific roles such as doctors and nurses to partner more closely on best practice protocols that are enhancing patient care.
Operational Impact
  • The organization has evolved significantly, with more people becoming comfortable with using dashboards and interacting with data.
  • The overall business is now getting more value out of answering the unknowns with data and by seeing data all in one place.
  • The team’s role has shifted from repeatedly building dashboards and reports to really enabling the organization.
Quantitative Benefit
  • In one scenario, the organization was able to drill down to three specific patients where a simple call from a financial counselor and an insurance counselor from their end led to $54,000 in revenue.
