The Challenge
Bossard North America faced significant challenges with their existing mobile printers used on forklifts for order processing. The inherited printers from Europe degraded in performance over time, leading to frequent breakdowns and long repair times of up to three months. This caused operational inefficiencies and downtime, as workers had to resort to stationary printers, leading to misplaced or incorrect labels. The company needed a more reliable and high-volume printing solution to meet their growing demands.
About The Customer
Bossard Group is a global leader in the procurement and sale of fastening elements, with its headquarters in Zug, Switzerland. The company, driven by its founding family for seven generations, employs around 1,400 people worldwide. Bossard provides not only fastening products but also engineering and logistical services. The company has a strong presence in Europe, America, and Asia-Pacific, and is listed on the Swiss stock exchange. Bossard North America, a subsidiary, has been expanding its footprint in the North American market, with a significant warehousing facility in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Solution
To address the issues with their existing printers, Bossard North America explored new printer options and eventually connected with a local Honeywell dealer. They tested a demo of the Honeywell MP Compact Mobile printer, which initially required an external wireless bridge. Impressed with its performance, they later tested the wireless version of the printer. The Honeywell MP Compact Mobile printer proved to be a robust, industrial-strength thermal printer capable of handling high-volume label printing. Its rugged design and reliable performance met the demands of Bossard's operations, eliminating the frequent breakdowns and repair needs experienced with previous printers.
Operational Impact
  • The MP Compact Mobile printers are mounted on forklifts and connected to Bossard's wireless network, streamlining the order picking process.
  • Workers can now scan barcodes, pick products, and print labels directly from the forklifts, reducing the need for stationary printers and minimizing errors.
  • The reliability of the Honeywell printers has significantly reduced downtime and the need for IT intervention, allowing workers to remain productive throughout the day.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Bossard North America has placed an order for 26 Honeywell MP Compact Mobile printers for their Cedar Falls facility.
